about

In which two of our protagonists discuss opposing viewpoints.

lyrics

Stop and take some time to look around you,
Take a lungful of that cool refreshing air,
Think of all the wonders that surround you,
And maybe you’ll see why I don’t despair.
Think about it!
No more crime, No more war,
No more taxes to be paid,
We’ve inherited the Earth, all this is ours forevermore,
You must admit we’ve pretty much got it made.

So aren’t you glad that we’re the lucky ones who made it through the storm,
The lucky ones who lived to tell the tale,
We must have guardian angels keeping watch since we were born,
Protecting us from harm if we should fail.
And so I say the time has come for us to raise a glass,
The time has come to give ourselves a cheer,
Wrath and destruction and distress have come to pass,
And yet, despite it all, we still are here.

I’m not sure I agree with your position,
And your point of view may just need refining,
‘Cos when you look at our present condition,
It’s pretty hard to find a silver lining.
Where will we live? What will we eat?
What will we do if one of us falls ill?
I’m trying to prepare us for a future that is bleak,
Whereas you just want to sit back and chill.

And you say that we’re the lucky ones because we made it through,
Because we didn’t perish with the rest,
The lucky ones with guardian angels watching them, and who
Have got no valid cause to be depressed.
But from where I stand the picture is a different one indeed,
From where I stand things aren’t so black and white,
The road ahead is full of peril, we don’t know where it will lead,
And we don’t know what danger’s lurking out of sight.

Well I suppose you have a point (though it’s a little out of joint),
And your pragmatism may have valid grounds.
And I concede you may be right that the future could be bright,
(Though I’m not sure that his reasoning is sound).

At the end of the day we both have valid things to say,
There’s no need for us to argue.
Let’s not waste a song debating who is right and wrong.
But instead accept each other’s point of view.

(Though he’s clearly a moron.)
We’ll just respect each other’s point of view.
(Even though it’s based on erroneous assumptions.)
Each other’s point of view.
(Despite the shallowness of his opinion.)
Each other’s point of view.
(Misguided though it may be.)
